      Snow falls from clouds. Pretty sure those crystals formed in place and they would be considered hoarfrost.

      Hoarfrost is a type of frost that forms when water vapor in the air turns directly into ice crystals on solid surfaces that are below freezing. It has a feathery appearance and is often found on objects with small diameters, like tree branches, wires, and plant stems.
