No, it didn’t. It’s just another buzzword on the internet, this one belonging to the far right.
Mass deportation has always been a goal of any nationalist movement. This is absolutely nothing new.
What is new is that Europe is moving to the right again. France will eventually see President Le Penn. The AfD in Germany is slowly but surely becoming a force. Austria, we will see soon, Italy has already got the Brothers of Italy in power.
When times get tough, the tribe becomes very aware of who gets to be a member. This is true across not only all human societies but some animals too. There was a man who used to live with wild bears in the summer months every year for years. He was accepted by the group. One year, food was scarce, the bears were hungry, and they killed him because in this new situation, he wasn’t actually one of them. This is a true story. What’s happening in Europe and the US with the rise of nationalism is the same principle.
We’ve been here before. We know how bad it gets if the leaders don’t do something and have a “let them eat cake” reputation.
