That Bering Strait bridge would be insanely long & building it would be a nightmare & a half.

How old is this concept of a plan? Because part of it looks like the (Alcan) Alaska Highway and the aircraft delivery route to the Soviet Union during WW2.

I find it interestring that the existing railway goes from Berlin (pop. 3.5 x 10^6) to Taishet (pop. 3.5 x 10^4) over a distance of 6800 km. There is not much of a settlement there. I’d love to know when the Russians supposedly suggested that. Must have been better times. I can’t imagine anyone even _wanting_ a bridge across the Bering Strait at this time.

Travelling through Yakustk makes me feel happy, I follow a Youtube channel where it documents the living conditions there and they’re a hardy bunch. Down to -70c at times and they go about their lives just like normal.
Hopefully if this goes ahead it could bring lots of development potential for the poorer regions.
Cool idea but very impractical. Tickets would cost more than any flight with way more travel time.

It took me a moment to grasp it at first. Perhaps it was because, at first glance, the distance between Paris, Berlin, and Istanbul seemed unrealistically short compared to the section that falls within Russian territory.

Russian proposed – no stop in Moscow.
Seems like the proposing comrade had a free travel to the next gulag.

On a hyperloop that would just be a 14h trip

If your going to Paris, why not the whole hog and continue till london.

That’s just a line drawn on a map. That’s not an actual proposal or useful at all.

Sounds more like a Russian plan to have logistical access for its militaries into NATO and North America.
As the Ukraine invasion has shown, there is a difference in Russian railroad tracks and European tracks. Russian tracks are generally wider which limits their use of trains to only within Russia. US, Canada, and EU tracks are slightly skinnier. With Russia relying primarily on trains for logistical support of its militaries, along with sixe differences, there’s no way this gets built.

The Moscow-Vladivostok train takes 6-7 days with no connections, Moscow is approximately near the letter U in the word R**u**ssian(Federation) on the map.
On the other hand, cargo ships, judging by google, promise to deliver cargo from New York to Paris in 6-10 days
defcry on
Unless its for cargo it doesnt make any sense. And even that doesnt make sense given the sanctions, tensions and uncertainty.

This is so when they invade and illegally annex the rest of Europe they have a quick way to send military equipment and sex dolls to their soldiers! Genius!
