Thais was very unpopular and led to several riots and revolts that the Qing brutally put down and after that most men submitted to the queue. The qing also tried to outlaw foot binding. This was met with massive backlash with woman refusing to stop binding their feet and after a few years the qing stop trying to enforce the law. Leading to chinese writers to cheekly note that ‘men submit ,woman resisted’’.
