Trump’s SAVE Act Could Make Millions of Women Citizens Unable to Vote

    1. “And what will the law require citizens who want to vote do? Lacking a passport or other proof of citizenship with their married names, they must produce both a birth certificate (with the seal of the state where it was issued; no copies allowed) and a current form of identification—both with the exact same name on them. That could instantly disqualify about 90 percent of all married women without passports or other proof that matches their birth certificates or proof of a legal name change.

For women in that situation, they can still register to vote if they can prove that they went to court to change their name when they got married, but most women just start using their new married name without ever going through all those formalities (although a few states recognize marriage as a legal name change).”

    2. I swear somewhere there’s a room full of evil people dreaming up ways to be as nasty as possible to the people.

    4. This is why riders to legislation should not be allowed. If a piece of legislation cannot pass on its own accord, then it should never be allowed to be tacked onto much larger legislations.

Unfortunately, both sides benefit from this so we’ll never see this behavior being prohibited.

My husband and I chose a new surname when we got married for personal reasons. We both still have our maiden names on our birth certificates, and our married names on our IDs. We’re both native born US citizens who’ve lived our whole lives in the US, and we’d both be ineligible under this law. Fortunately we both have passports and we both went through social security to change our names so it’s fully above board and we’d probably be allowed anyway, but what bullshit. This has to be some of the most broad reaching and naked voter suppression attempted at the federal level in quite some time.

    6. Let the OG Jasmine Crockett loose on their sorry ass. That woman will strip the BS off and reveal the Bronze Age agenda in just two pithy sentences, mark my words…

    7. I saw that an estimated 9% of voters don’t have the documents necessary to vote under the SAVE act. Meanwhile, a review of 23.5 million votes from the 2016 election found 30 undocumented votes. The GOP is trying to dismiss 9% of voters to prevent a handful of votes from undocumented immigrants. Keep in mind, there’s no widespread voter fraud that would affect election results, and close elections face audits and recounts already to ensure the results. All of this talk of voter fraud is a thinly veiled attempt to make voting harder, mostly for low-income and minority voters that don’t have the necessary documents

One more reason to either not get married or not change your name, lol.

      They really gunning for women.

    9. Do these GOP lawmakers not understand that conservative women are more likely to take on their husband’s name? They never think about unexpected consequences to their plans.

    10. Huh! It’s like the GQP **DOESN’T** want half of America to participate in the process… 🤔and yet somehow we’re not the patriots. 🧐

    11. They just need to bring their birth certificate, marriage license, passport, library card, local property tax receipts, utility bills proving residence, a doctor’s note, and a sawbuck to slip the election official in case there’s still a problem. Easy Peasy!

    12. They’ll do anything to make sure only white males vote. Jokes on them I’m a white make voting against this pos. The failure is coming from inside the house lol.

    13. People! The GOP is NOT joking about any of their views – women’s rights, immigrants, POC, LGBTQ, etc. They mean every word! Vote while you still can, like your life depends on it because it does!!

    14. And people asked me why I never took my husband’s last name when we married. It’s precisely because of THIS kind of GOP bureaucratic BS!

Me. I am me. I was born me and I will die ME. These MF’s will do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to take away women’s rights of every kind.

The only solace is that there is no way this could ever be signed into law before this election.

    15. They complain that people aren’t having children enough or that women no longer want to date Republican men

Then they do shit like this. Wtf do you expect?

    16. lol 🤣 only the childless cat ladies would be sble to vote until JD lobbied to make that illegal too.

    17. Can someone actually point to where it says that? I’m trying to pull it up but I can’t get the actual bill.

    18. As someone married to an immigrant with 2 kids… The thought of them not even caring about her citizenship status and using her birth certificate to deport her and take Mt kids away scares me.

Is such a bill really able to pass both chambers? Biden would veto the Hell out of this, does the GOP have enough votes to override such a veto?

    20. Divorced and getting my maiden name back after Nov election. Republican women and non voters FATWO FuckAllTheWayOff

    21. It kills me that (white) people are always so incredulous and disbelieving when it comes to the GOP agenda. What would it take for them to get it the first time? Does the villain have to say they’re a villain? Good grief.

News Flash: Millions of American Woman flood city registrars offices with name change applications, reverting to their ‘birth names’.

    23. I am so tired of politicians committing crimes legally. This is election fraud. That’s what it is. They are attempting, actively, in front of everybody, to deny citizens of the nation the right to vote to sway the election in their candidate’s favor. So help me Odin, Mab, and the Moon above, these cocksuckers need to be in prison.
