    1. Context: After the US Civil War began, Hawaiian King Kamehameha IV declared the islands as neutral in the conflict. However, there were many in the islands that felt the need to be a part of the conflict. Over a hundred Native Hawaiians participated in the conflict, for both the Union and the Confederacy, and would be remembered as the “Hawaii Sons of the Civil War”

    2. I didn’t even know Hawaii was a part of the US America at that point, like it makes sense, but now I just feel like a dumbass
