The thick grass is letting air in to the cup. Has nothing to do with the soil or grass. Just how well the flat dirt creates a seal on the cup. This demonstration is bogus.

He should of pooled water on each surface and timelapsed how long it took to absorb. But yeah any dingus knows dry compacted ground doesn’t absorb water barely at all
