The guy is remembered fondly in a place he liked spending time. That is a very nice way to be remembered.

Makes more sense than ‘He hated this place and wanted it turned into a car park.’

My grandfather has a bench dedicated in his honor with a similar “minimalist” inscription overlooking Cape Cod – and that stupid thing has been a constant headache in our family for YEARS. Our family had to “donate” around $15,000 to the city for the “concrete pour, bench, and inscription plate”. When my grandmother finally heard what the city wanted to charge us – she went absolutely ballistic. She stormed down to the Parks and Rec office and told the poor lady at the front desk “For that kind of money, I could time travel back to nineteen ninety eight when the undertaker threw mankind off hell in a cell and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcers table.
