My younger self was really cool.

Uh, I mean, if you feel that you were cool that’s good. In my experience there was a girl in my elementary school that kept trying to buy friendship with ANYTHING.

“If you push me on the swings, I’ll give you a gel pen.”

“If you sit next to me at lunch I’ll give you my dessert.”

It just…was sad. As a kid I just felt bad for her that she couldn’t organically make friends and had to “buy” them. I told her I would push her on the swing just for fun. Or took her to play Four Square with the rest of us. We later found out her mom was 16 when she had her, and she had a hard time caring for her and that some of the kids stigmatized her for having such a young mom.

So, glad it felt good for you because I always felt very bad for her.
