I got picked up right outside a place that made cheesecake and other bakery. The owner was super nice lady. Every morning she would bring me a warm, fresh baked chocolate chip cookie. When it was winter she let me wait in side the store. Ended up working there when I turned 15.

I had to perpetually wake by four until senior year, and rarely I’d not make it to my bus stop. Once tho, I ran up as it left and I was pretty upset and started to panic. My mom worked an hour away through gridlocked traffic, so she’d have to miss a ton of work to drive me through gridlock to school and then back to work. I was dismayed thinking about all this, when a woman, guessing 30s or 40s (I had no concept of age) told me to hop in, and asked where the bus was going. She drove me ahead to the next stop 🥹🥺🥹🥺 It wasn’t that close, but she didn’t care. She dropped me off so I could get on and I thanked her profusely and she just seemed like, “this is clearly what’s right, so it’s no worries,” attitude. She’s always stuck with me and I hope she knows that. Ever since, I’ve wanted to be that for as many kids as I can. A helper when it’s clear they need some help ❤️

I grew up in the projects. My parents were an immigrant couple with nothing to their name. My first bed was a donation by a merciful couple that gave us their old mattress so we could sleep under the street lights.
When I was 5, living in the same neighborhood and never having received a Christmas gift in my life, “Santa” came by our hood and gave me a stuffed animal.
I am a 45 year old senior engineer at an awesome company… this stuffed animal sits in my room. My wife has a wall of our accomplishments. There’s so much to be proud of… but my stuffed animal needs to be there. He watches… because in my mind, I am still 5… and I can’t believe so much can come from so little.
