      Background : During the time leading up to WW1 camouflage had become a quite common matter which didn‘t seem to bother the French command that much.Some of the higher ups thought it wise to switch to less noticeable uniforms but the high command insisted on keeping the traditional pantalon rouge ( „red trousers“ ) which would cost many French soldiers their lives during the first days of the war before the command gave in and had more modern uniforms designed and introduced..
