I don’t forgive people because they deserve forgiveness, I forgive them because I deserve to let that shit go.
I feel like our shared conception around “forgiveness” centers the transgressor—they’re sorry, they’ve made amends, and now they have earned forgiveness. And if you don’t forgive them, you’re somehow not being generous enough. Fuck that.
Forgiveness should be a selfish act. Do that shit because *you* wanna feel better.
