Always take Doxy with food, it causes stomach upset if taken without food.

Def take with food. That shit’ll tear you up otherwise. And heed the “no sun exposure” bit, too.

Doxycycline absorbs better without food but CAN cause stomach upset on an empty stomach.

I used to take it on an empty stomach without any problems. I always drank a tall glass of water with it.

Are they the same? There’s a hyclate and monohydrate salt…. A person can respond differently. The consult typically goes like this: it’s best absorbed in an empty stomach, it gets bound to a lot of minerals and becomes less effective, however, if it upsets your stomach, take it with some food.

    5. Also, avoid dairy. Doxycycline binds with the calcium and it can decrease its effectiveness. Never got a clear answer if I couldn’t ingest it at all during treatment, or just don’t ingest a couple hours before and after taking. I have been on Doxycycline multiple times and agree with other comments, take with some food and good amount of water.

    6. Yep I took this for something, don’t remember what it was like 4 years ago, on an empty stomach and 25 mins later, bang. Bile projectile.

Mine says to take on an empty stomach and to drink plenty of water. It does say you can take with food or milk to lessen the chance of upset stomach. Well. That was helpful. Only 6 more weeks of this shit lol

ALWAYS TAKE WITH FOOD AND WATER

If this tablet gets stuck in your throat or in a fold of your stomach it can and will cause some pretty severe damage to the linings. We recommend not lying down for an hour too to ensure it hits your stomach and dissolves.

    9. Doxycycline should be taken on an empty stomach because food interactions causes decreased absorption. However, the probably of experiencing nausea from taking it on an empty stomach is so high, that it is generally recommended to take with food, even if that means lower antibiotics gets into your system. Afterall, getting some is better than none if you throw up.

Whatever you do, avoid the sun and wear sunscreen even if it is cloudy. Doxy causes me to sun burn bad every time.

    11. After just having gone through a course of it and reading the same thing, apparently the name brand says it lessens the efficacy if taken with food. The generic doesnt have the sane warning. My research came up with if you get nauseous on an empty stomach to take with food, i was fine with a big glass of water.

Do take heed of sun exposure while taking it though, that shit is no joke.

Ignore everyone else here, you should always follow the instructions from your pharmacist.

Do not take it within a couple hours before or after any dairy as this can make the doxy inneffective. Kinda surprised people are just saying take it with food and not saying this part

    14. The one on the right is the intended usage. The one of the left is a custom one.

So, I get the food part but can someone ELI5 the bit about sun exposure in relation to the drug?

    16. Duuuuude doxyvycline needs to be with food or at least a full glass of water after. It can cause esophageal strictures if it sits in your throat at all.
