I both enjoy Mushoku Tensei and think Rudeus is a sexual predator and general creep. That said, almost everyone in Mushoku Tensei is a sexual predator and/or creep, so he fits right in. If anything, he’s better than most of the people around him; “In the land of the blind, the One Eyed Man is king” kind of situation.
You don’t have to approve of a character on a moral level to find them entertaining.

Like, he is being protective of his daughter and looks back on all the debauchery in his life with regret?

I hardly ever actually see people defending Rudeus. It’s pretty evident watching the series that nearly every character is unlikable. The series doesn’t try to force you to like them. They’re garbage people, and the show knows it. Rudy does detestable things, and frames them as bad things.
