I’m with the boomers on this one

If I’m ever arrested at LaGuardia for making my own coffee you know why

    2. It is also the fact that not everyone has a smart phone. I hate when companies change with the assumption that every single one of their would be customers have smartphones.

    3. Don’t get laid over in the Minneapolis airport. No restaurant has any wait staff. You order from an iPad on your table. You want things your way? You have a question about the menu? You’re out of luck. Technology should be an option, not a mandate.

EDIT: This was in 2019 and I did not have a smartphone. There were people who I was able to complain to about this situation. If that’s wait staff, then so be it. I also don’t drink so I don’t know about ordering a beer. I was not going to pay top dollar at a full-on restaurant so that was not an option for me. If that’s your thing, if you like paying $20 for a hamburger, OK. I also did not want to buy prepared food from a vending machine even if there was a human cashier. I found the experience at this airport to be awful without the mandated technology. If someone else knows more, I stand corrected.

There’s a fast food franchise near my apartment that will let you order food only on their app. I’ve tried it twice and given up both times and left.

Yep, I’m with boomers here. Captive audience with other methods of payment.

    6. The only thing “boomer” like in this post is OP not realizing there’s like 50 places to buy a coffee at LaGuardia – don’t want an app – walk 100 yards to the next store/shop and buy one there.

Here’s a crazy thought. Don’t buy coffee there?

This is like the people who bitch about self checkout counters. Don’t like it? Go elsewhere.

      It’s really that simple.

It’s Starbucks. It’s shit coffee. Howard Schultz deserves to be kicked in the nuts for eternity

    9. I’m not surprised. The way you folks treat coffee shop employees I wouldn’t want to talk to anyone either.

Fuck LaGuardia TSA. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. I know this is off-topic, but that is how strongly I feel about this.

    11. I won’t buy anything that requires an app in order for it to function properly. What happens when the company stops updating the app? Or if you have to update the app but doing so requires you to buy a new mobile because the app requires a higher os than your device can support? Technology certainly doesn’t make everything better

    12. You can get a coffee at LGA, just not Starbucks.  There’s like 5 Dunkin Donuts in the airport, and who knows what else.  If Starbucks makes it difficult, go elsewhere – it’s an airport, it’ll all taste shitty anyway

    13. I was at a restaurant in an airport once, I think it may have been JFK, and the only decent restaurant you had to order online using their app.

You not only had to download the restaurants app, but create an account.

And then, after going through that their internet went down. Apparently there was no other way for them to take orders. Everyone working there just sat around for 40 minutes while they waited for the internet to come back up.

Yeah, this and QR code menus are the two things I am 100% with the boomers on.

So a pocket full of cash and no phone and you’re SOL and they lose a customer…smart.

I was literally just at LaGuardia a couple weeks ago. There is a regular line and regular checkout for Starbucks. That said, I ordered on the app because the line was just ridiculously long lol.

    16. There’s a pickup only Starbucks near my house – literally a storefront on a strip mall where you have to order from the app and pick up, can’t order at the store

    17. Let’s add to that the practice of insisting it is company policy of getting our phone number while paying for an item. Last time I refused the cashier was actually pissed that I would not give it up.

    18. Apps are not particularly for customer convenience- another way to harvest and sell your personal data Is the larger attraction.

    19. My workplace just recently tried to force everyone to download an app to buy vending machine food and that plan lasted for two days because:

      1. Nobody would download the app
      2. People started stealing everything because ‘if I can’t pay for it then I’m just going to take it’

They did away with that stupid idea real quick lol. I don’t blame anyone for refusing to download even more apps just to buy fast food or vending machine shit. It should be a two second transaction. You don’t need to know my phone number, location, and have access to my photos and shit just to get a $6 muffin.

That would be the end of my dealings with Starbucks, in perpetuity.
      Edit:
If I confirm this, I think it will be.

I went into Taco Bell the other day and they refused to take my order, they told me I had to order on the iPad thing behind me… it’s fucking dumb

    22. TreadMeHarderDaddy on

Sorry this is a bad boomer take. Coffee service is so much better in the app era.

You used to stand in line for 30+ minutes or drink whatever bastard shit they had at work . Now you can basically get your coffee in <2 minutes while parked illegally… And you can really customize your order without feeling rushed by the people behind you who are also late for work

    23. Hidinginplainsightaw on

Looks like they’ve outsourced jobs to the customers.

Do everything yourself but still give us a tip, sounds about right.

Why would a public official need to be involved? Sounds like a private business doesn’t want to use cash and you agreed to a TOS to download their app and use it. Now if you want LARGE BUREAUCRATIC GOVERNMENT involved with altruistic, hard working, private businesses that only have your best interests in mind, be my guest.
