    1. can’t think of a reason for a wooden boat to have a door that thick. I’d vote rudder as well.

looks more like an old rudder tbh but the difference is pretty much academic as they’d both share the same construction. even ww2 ships had metal clad wood core rudders still.

Likely part of the rudder on a three masted schooner. Many have sunk in the waters around RI

    4. If you zoom in closely on the mid-lift of the image you can see a branding stamp with the name boeing.

    5. I appreciate the clarification. I would have thought it was Rhode Island France.

That’s a rudder. I’m a Merchant Mariner who worked in the engine room.

I’d like to dry that, clean it, refinish it, and make a hella cool unique table out of it.

    8. Regardless of what it is, clean to, let it dry and hang on your wall or turn it into a coffee table. It’ll make for a great conversational piece.

    9. that is wild!! are there like historians or whatever who will come look at it?

    10. A whole ass ship is on Charlestown Breachway here Rhode island after the wall collapsed from the storms that took dozens of feet of sand.

    11. I’m betting there’s a freak on this sub who’ll manage to pull up accurate info on this. Work your magic, Reddit.

I’d like to know how old it is and what kind of wood was used. There’s a whole story behind this.
