This pepper scale tells you how spicy a pepper is before you buy

Oh shit so chocolate habeneros are why that one batch of jerk chicken made everyone have a rough time huh. They were out of regular habeneros and I sort of figured they were around the same heat.

I have mentioned this in other comments but my sense of spiciness is sort of fucked. It’s just not as intense for me as other people, so it leads to situations like this where something over two times as hot feels just a little bit spicier.

After the “red curry incident” I was banned from bringing really spicy foods to future potlucks.

I feel like some jalapenos are liars. I’ve had some slightly hotter than a bell and others that would melt plastic. It is insane how much those vary.

    3. To be clear, the Scoville scale is a real thing; it isn’t merely something the Buford Highway Farmers Market made up for shits and giggles. Well, maybe shits…

    4. really weird how different peppers hit people. Habenaros, ill eat like popcorn. Jalapenos, ill puke my guts out.

Also mildly interesting is how oddly specific the upper bound of the ghost pepper is

What’s the deal with the ghost pepper? Kind of exact, compared to the others…

    7. That scale is borderline useless though. The scoville value is not something most people can translate easily by the number alone. Likewise, the comments here even disagree with the rankings for serranos. A pepper can be in the range of the arbol but not considered hot?

    8. Mildly annoying they decided to not put “Fatali” “Habanero” and “Scotch Bonnet” in same tier when they are basically identical on the scale. A lot above the others in “Hot” and very clearly below the other in “Killer”

    9. habanero is my limit.. this makes me feel kinda good about my spice tolerance lol but i do know people with insane spice tolerances

They should add “professor X” to that list. Averaging 2.5mil-3+ mil scoville units.

Created by the same dude who made the carolina reaper hybrid. In fact professor X was stable for over a decade, and the creator just publicly released it last year to finally break his own record for the hottest pepper in the world.

I have ripe Ghost Peppers in my backyard growing. I might go chop them up and put them in a stew. I do stir fry them a bit to soften them up. Which is painful because it gets into the air.

Now listen, I’ve had scorpions, ghost peppers, carolina reapers, habeneros, serranos, cayennes, and so on so I know a spicy pepper…….but I’ve had some jalapeños that are hot as fuck. Like hotter than they have any right to be.
