The painting is a prime example of a work that combines the typical features of the imperial representation of Emperor Charles IV. with the representation of the commissioner and exceptional artistic quality.

The author of the work was artistically trained in the court circle of Master Theodoric, as evidenced by the soft conception of volumes and shapes and the mastered facial types. However, the reduction of the fleshly core of the figures and the emphasis on line and rhythm in some of the draperies already foreshadow the work of the Master of the Třeboň Altar. The idealizing features of some faces also point towards the Bohemian painting of the late 14th century.

The painting is divided into two parts. In the middle of the upper part is the Virgin sitting on a throne with the infant Jesus. They are adored by kneeling Emperor [Charles IV](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_IV,_Holy_Roman_Emperor) and his son King [Wenceslaus IV](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wenceslaus_IV_of_Bohemia). [St. Sigismund of Burgundy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigismund_of_Burgundy) stands behind Charles IV, while [St. Wenceslaus of Bohemia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wenceslaus_I,_Duke_of_Bohemia) stands behind the young king as his patron. In the lower part of the panel stand other Bohemian (Czech) patron saints (from the left): [St. Procopius](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Procopius_of_S%C3%A1zava), [St. Adalbert](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adalbert_of_Prague), [St. Vitus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitus_(saint)) and [St. Ludmila](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludmila_of_Bohemia). In the middle there is kneeling Archbishop [Jan Očko of Vlašim](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_O%C4%8Dko_of_Vla%C5%A1im) who is adoring St. Adalbert, his predecessor in the post of bishop of Prague.
