The civilization VI biography for Tamar mentions the event of the ambassador being slapped and says she probably approved of it.
Like similar historical figures such as Joan of Arc and Empress Theodora, Tamar was highly religious and is a canonized saint in the Georgian and Antioch Orthodox churches.

I’m kind of curious how many times female rulers were turned into concubines after getting captured by a foreign empire.
The only one I can think of who at least has a Myth about that is Ida of Austria.
