You know you messed up when every part of the political spectrum is against you

At the end of WW1, the Kaiser of Germany made enemies with almost every political idealogy, and each for different reasons. The Nationalists (the German Empire flag) hated him because he was surrendering which they thought was awful, Germany could still win. The Republicans and the Communists hated him because he was a stinky monarchy that had starved out his people in exchange for a war they lost.

Just like the Eight-Nation Alliance of the Boxer Rebellion, the friendship did not last. The Republicans decided to be the early bird that gets the worm and as soon as the Kaiser fled, they declared a republic a few hours before the communists could. This gave the new Weimar Republic ALL the legitimacy and the communists none. Somehow after the second phase of the revolution, which was just like a civil war between the communists and the anti-communists, the communists were crushed. With the communists gone, the Nationalists would attempt a coup de ta which failed, and then they got suppressed, giving the Weimar Republic the victory over its former friends.

      This is a mass oversimplification

      (Not all Nationalists were anti-kaiser)
