This is the unfinished gate of Persepolis-Iran, started by the order of Artaxerxes III in 359 BC, and continued under Arses and Darius III for nearly 30 years. It remanined unfinished when the Achaemenid Empire fell at the Battle of Gaugamela in 331 BC, led by Alexander the Great. [5020×3347]
